History of Glades Presbyberian Church

In 1987 a small group of interested people from the First Presbyterian Church in Boca Raton began to meet in the media center of Loggers Run Middle School on Sunday mornings. The first service was held on March 15, 1987 with four families attending. By February 5, 1989 there were 150 adults on the roll and 85 youth or preparatory members.

Kernie Kostrub became the first full time pastor on April 1, 1990. The church purchased vacant land at the corner of Ponderosa Drive and Oriole Country Road (known now as Judge Winikoff Road), where they sponsored fund raising events to raise money for a building fund. During that time the church operated out of a storefront in Sandalfoot, where meetings, choir practice and church business were conducted. We were delighted to finally be able to worship in our newly built sanctuary on Christmas Eve in 1994.

Ground-breaking took place for our second building on January 10, 1999. It was to be our Fellowship Hall and Education Building, as we were bursting at the seams in our sanctuary with Sunday School classes held in every corner of the church on Sundays, including the kitchen!

In 2004 the Session approved the plans for a Memorial Garden. Each year on All Saints Sunday we add names of members and their family members to a granite memorial stone. Our Memorial Garden is a beautiful place for reflection and prayer.

In 2011 our long time pastor, Kernie Kostrub retired and an interim pastor was selected while the Search Committee diligently took several years to find the next pastor.

In 2012 we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Glades Presbyterian Church. It was a joyful celebration with many long time and founding members returning to help us celebrate. On Easter Sunday 2015 we welcomed our second pastor, Rev. R. Carter Robinson. Pastor Robinson left Glades in October 2017.

In 2018, Rev. David Crapnell became our interim pastor. He remained with us until 2020, when the COVID pandemic hit.

We currently employ a rotating group of Presbyterian pastors who provide us with diverse, interesting perspectives each Sunday.

We will soon search for our next Pastor. As we move into the future, we are anxious to see what God has planned for us.  We know that He has a beautiful plan!

Come and be part of an exciting time in the life of Glades Presbyterian Church.
